Drinking a daily green smoothie has made such a difference in my life when it comes to energy and being fit.

However, it was not always that way.

In the past, I relied on Starbucks coffee to get me through the days… yet even that didn’t really work. I needed a lot more energy than my exhausted body seemed capable of giving me. So I went on an epic Google self-diagnosis search and realized I was experiencing the effects of the Standard American Diet (SAD). My daily eating habits of 4 cups of coffee, bean burritos, and grilled cheese sandwiches had finally caught up to me. I was nutritionally deprived, and my body was unable to give me the energy that I once had.

Then I discovered green smoothies. I loved how simple that first green smoothie was to make, how it tasted… and I was instantly hooked. I started drinking at least one green smoothie a day, and my energy levels soared.

The more I drank green smoothies, the more fruits and veggies my body craved. It was like, “yes, give me more of that please.” Yet at the time, my husband and I were financially struggling. So I had to find a way to make these smoothies affordable to keep it up while on a WIC budget, receiving unemployment subsidy and having no health insurance. So I blended ingredients that were easy to find, affordable and tasted great so my kids would drink them. That’s how Simple Green Smoothies began.

I wanted us to all drink one a day to keep our immune systems up and the energy high. A happy side effect was I began to effortlessly lose weight (without counting calories and depriving myself), my energy skyrocketed, and I started to get excited about what I could do with my life. I started dreaming about what I wanted to do… and then actually go after it. I started running again and ran the Disney World Marathon in 2015.

In 2016, I took flying lessons and was able to soar through the skies in a Cessna 152. In 2017, I ran my first ultramarathon, which was 31 miles through Florida’s national forest trails. I am sharing all of this NOT to brag, but to tell you that I would never have dreamed of all this before drinking my first green smoothie— and I hope that you unearth your own passions through your journey with Simple Green Smoothies too.

  2. I have struggled with my weight my whole life. I have tried the green smoothie challenges and always felt better during. But have always seemed to revert back to my old ways after. I’m kinda at my lowest right now. So I’m going to try once again. Thanks for your continued passion and inspiration. Here’s to a better me!!

  3. When I eat more vegetables I have more energy during the day. When I eat junk I feel sluggish during the day. I love the veggie smoothies. When I make the smoothies I can add more veggies to my diet.

I found that I had more energy to do things like work out to get a hold of my health. When I changed jobs in 2014, my life was chaotic. Finding SGS two years ago just as I was getting into running changed my perspective on how I fuel my body and has led me to try (and mostly like) foods that I never dreamed I would willingly eat.  I started with the 30 day smoothie challenge and have completed the spring challenge twice.  Additionally I have become more comfortable in the kitchen while learning to cook all these different foods.  I consistently have more energy and my nutrition today is a vast improvement on what it was 2 years ago and much of that has to do with this program.  THANK YOU!

  10. I have been using SGS for several years, and I have seen how eating more plants affects not only my health, but that’s of my family, as well. We have more energy, less mood swings, better digestion, more stamina.
    We have incorporated more plants into our environment, as well, with both a backyard garden, and earthboxes, as well as raising our own small, urban flock of chickens, and adding 2 colonies of honeybees to our master bedroom balcony.
    Thanks for fueling our bodies to pursue our passions!

I have been following you for some months and it has been a great journey, to experience new foods, new ideas … driving my family little by little into it.   18. This was really inspirational, thanks for sharing. And I already KNOW how my life would be different if I filled my body with more plants because I've done a few vegan cleanses before and my body just HUMS with energy and happiness. Those cleanses take some planning and prep work but when I'm ready for them, they are there for me, and smoothies are a big part of those cleanses. But even when I'm not in cleanse mode, I still have a smoothie every day and I'm 100% certain that they have kept illness away (I NEVER get sick anymore!) and that if everything else in life feels chaotic, I at least am doing that one thing a day for my health. P.S. My husband is an airline pilot so I know just how hard you worked to learn how to fly that plane. KUDOS to you!

  19. Very inspiring Jen! You have not only been able to fuel your body right, but you have managed to do this for your entire family. I use your recipes often for green smoothies and I feel amazing after and for the rest of the day also. I believe if I fuelled my body with more plant-based foods, I will further be able to increase my ability to be even more active as well as have a positive impact on my mood. I love being active ; running, lifting weights, yoga, sports, rollerblading, and when I start my day with a Green smoothie, it sets me on track for the rest of the day and I never skip a workout on a smoothie day! I can't wait to start incorporating more of your recipes beyond breakfast for more great and healthy benefits! Thank you!!
